Equity in an historically inequitable society feels like oppression to its benefactors–myself being one of them. White cis-het men simultaneously benefit from and make invisible their pinnacle of privilege. Shining light on those innumerable privileges is one thing, but removing their charms is another.
Further, when taken seriously, equity must ultimately manifest as abolition and decolonization–lest it ignore the twin original sins of the US: land theft through genocide and mass profits through enslavement.
